Corporate Challenge Events Marks 30 Years in Team Building

Corporate Challenge Events proudly announces a significant milestone as we celebrate 30 years in business. Since our inception in 1994, we have grown to become Australasia’s leading and largest team building and corporate events organisation.

Reflecting on this journey, Dwain Richardson, General Manager for the past 30 years, shares, “Our purpose to inspire teams to embrace the power of play has not changed. Over the decades, we’ve seen first-hand the profound impact these experiences have on team performance and workplace culture. It’s been an incredible journey, and I’m immensely proud of what we’ve achieved together.”

With over 30 years of experience, Corporate Challenge Events is Australia’s preferred choice for delivering team activities and workshops designed to boost team performance and enhance workplace culture. Our diverse portfolio includes over 40 team activities ranging from outdoor adventures and evening entertainment to charity-focused programs. We cater to groups of all sizes, ensuring each event is tailored to achieve your objectives and stay within budget.

When asked how the team-building industry has changed over the last three decades, Richardson notes, “As workplace culture evolved, so did our offerings. In the early years, businesses operated with rigid hierarchical structures, prioritising efficiency over employee well-being. We were born out of a desire to foster a positive workplace culture, emphasising the importance of play, teamwork, and employee satisfaction.”

Richardson continues, “The power of play for adults is rooted in science—it activates neurons that promote creativity, reduce stress, and build trust. This scientific foundation underscores why, despite the many changes over the past 30 years, the essence of play remains at the core of what we do. Play helps individuals connect on a deeper level, fostering stronger bonds and more cohesive teams. This timeless principle will always be central to our purpose.”

Richardson adds, “While play remains at our core, adapting to meet the evolution of workplace culture is our promise. Our programs, once focused solely on games and puzzles, have evolved with a focus on developing human skills, fostering stronger relationships, and boosting employee engagement. Companies increasingly seek to create positive and engaging experiences for their employees, understanding that a motivated workforce leads to better performance and lower turnover rates.”

The introduction of charity team-building activities marked a significant milestone. “In the late 20th century, CSR was often seen as a peripheral concern, with companies primarily focused on maximising profits and shareholder value,” Richardson explains. “However, as public awareness of social and environmental issues grew, so too did expectations for businesses to act responsibly and ethically. We wanted to create experiences that not only benefited the teams but also gave back to the community.” Since 2007, our charity team-building programs have been responsible for $2.9 million in in-kind donations and in 2012 we added “our actions affect our community” to our list of values.

In 2012, Corporate Challenge Events launched its own team building workshop department. “Our workshops department emerged from our 3 E’s model, a framework shaped by many years of direct engagement with teams and their challenges.” says Richardson. Throughout our 30-year journey, we discovered that building a thriving team culture isn’t about quick fixes or one-off initiatives. It requires consistently nurturing three fundamental elements: Education, Engagement, and Environment.

Our team motto, “PTC (Positive team cultures) = E to the power of 3: Education, Engagement, and Environment,” encapsulates this belief. By focusing on these three pillars, we have been able to create workshops and programs that not only educate but also engage team members in a meaningful way, all within an environment that supports and enhances their growth. This holistic approach has underpinned our success and remains at the heart of everything we do.

As official and accredited providers of FISH! training and Belbin team profiling, Corporate Challenge Events utilises globally recognised training tools that are proven to develop high-performing teams. Our workshop series are purposefully designed to address your team’s unique learning requirements in a fun and engaging environment.

When COVID-19 took hold and led to an overnight shift towards remote work and digital collaboration, Corporate Challenge Events pioneered online team-building activities. “When the market needed it most, we adapted,” explains Richardson. “Our online and hybrid team-building programs have kept teams connected and engaged, regardless of their physical location.”

Richardson also takes a moment to express his gratitude: “I want to extend my immense thanks to our clients, charity partners, staff, and stakeholders for their incredible support over the past 30 years. It’s because of you that we’ve been able to achieve so much and make a lasting impact.”

Looking ahead, Richardson is optimistic: “With our purpose always front of mind to inspire teams to embrace the power of play”, there is no sign of slowing down. Our team is constantly innovating, with new and exciting team-building experiences emerging every day. We look forward to many more years of creating unforgettable experiences that bring teams closer together.”

As we celebrate three decades of success, we remain committed to our core values and look forward to many more years of spreading the power of play for team success.
